Oklahomans Vote to determine the fate of Affirmative Action

Posted on October 1, 2012 by Lawton, OK NAACP

As reported in the News OK, Tulsa World, and Newson6, the Oklahoma House has proposed a constitutional amendment banning affirmative action in the Oklahoma State government. Affirmative action programs have been used in the United States since 1961 to help groups of people underrepresented in areas of employment, education and business who have historically been discriminated against because of their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin. While some believe it is no longer necessary in today’s world, there are others who violently disagree.

This will be on the ballot in November for Oklahoma voters to decide. Please do your research, make up your mind, ensure you are registered to vote before October 12th, and make your voice heard on November 6th!
